Accelerating Future Green Solutions

The Danish government will invest a total of 15 billion DKK in green research and innovation by 2030. This investment will prioritize creating scalable solutions across sectors like energy, transportation, and industry, ensuring that Denmark remains a hub for green innovation. 

Denmark will continue to support four primary green research missions—carbon capture and storage, green fuels for transport and industry (e.g., Power-to-X), climate-friendly agriculture and food production, and circular economy (focused on plastics and textiles). These mission-driven efforts are aimed at addressing urgent climate challenges through cross-sector collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and public authorities. 

With a strong focus on the agricultural and food sectors, this initiative will drive the development and implementation of green climate solutions that reduce emissions while maintaining productivity. The government is committed to supporting new biotechnological innovations that can fundamentally change food production, reduce methane emissions, and improve resource efficiency. Denmark’s agricultural sector is positioned as a leader in sustainable practices, offering international partners a platform for collaboration in areas such as food innovation, biotechnology, and sustainable farming.

The Danish government will enhance its participation in EU research and innovation partnerships, positioning Danish companies and institutions to secure funding from the EU’s Innovation Fund and other green funding mechanisms. By strengthening collaborations within Europe and beyond, Denmark aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and the co-development of green technologies. This presents an opportunity for international partners to benefit from Denmark’s access to EU resources and engage in collaborative projects with a clear climate focus.

A new holistic framework will address not only the technological and research aspects of green innovation but also the regulatory, behavioral, and economic barriers that slow down the implementation of climate solutions. By focusing on streamlining regulatory processes, reducing documentation times, and aligning incentives for green innovation, Denmark will create a more conducive environment for the rapid deployment of new technologies. International stakeholders are invited to contribute to and benefit from this streamlined approach, particularly in sectors where regulatory alignment is critical for market entry and technology adoption.
